Welcome back to another season of FFY! It feels like we’ve only been away 2 mins but here we go again….as usual there’s been maybe some controversy to start the season but to be honest I’m not even going to touch that right now. Seeing as it’s the first Review of the season there’s a bumper short form Draft Review attached too. Let’s play ball!!
Draft Review and Stray Thoughts
Dev
- Solid opening 5 in Haaland, Bruno, Bowen, White and Trent, very solid in fact
- Wood at 9th demonstrates how shit the striker options are. I know he scored this weekend but he’s just such a limited player
- Mudryk at 10 is where you can see Dev starting to tire.
- Picks 16 to 20 are just a whole load of what the fuck players. De Cordova Reid, Adama, Collins, Manning and Baggot? Da fuq are the last 3.
- Solid first pick squad though it feels like with big point scorers in every department, this might annoyingly be quite a good year for The People’s Prince.
- Actually this squad isn’t has good as first thought, 1st pick should have a nailed XI but I’ve got to 8 and am struggling….
- Also very few defenders it seems and heavy on useless midfielders.
- Predicted Team – Ederson, White, Trent, Porro, Mitchell Bruno F, Bruno G, Bowen, Mitoma, Haaland, Wood
Chrish
- After a relatively positive yet free hit of a first season back there can be no excuses this season for returnee and deliverer of babies Chrishy of Cherish.
- Ha, just looking at his first 5 picks and it’s actually a bit wild. Saka….great start, Diaz….not so great and has done absolutely nothing to warrant a 2nd round pick but maybe he’ll be ok, Bernardo….a perennially underlooked player in this league but totally deserving of a 3rd round pick although there could be an argument he could have gone 2nd, ESR….this is a pick out of the book of TSFC, proper big gamble and one that will look excellent if it comes off but…BUT…this is second pick and gambles are for 7th – 10th, Trippier….seems weird to me especially when players such as Mbuemo, Kudus, Iwobi and Porro were still available.
- Actually as I dig deeper into this squad it seems all over the place, I mean look at this list of strikers…….Vardy, DCL, Antonio, Nketiah…..what the fuck Chrish? Second pick mate. Feels like those first 3 picks are going to have to do a lot of heavy lifting.
- Predicted XI – Becker, Tripps, De Ligt, Cucu, Saka, Diaz, Bernardo, Savio, Bailey, Hutchinson, Vardy
Rudi
- Watkins, Solanke, KDB, Eze and Mbuemo is a very very solid first 5 picks. Question marks remain over KDB but if he can stay fit that’s a first 5 that will bring a lot of points in consistently over the weeks.
- Picks 7 through 11 continued to impress and show some form of squad structure.
- After that it gets a bit messy and it felt like Rudi was on a one man Dawkins mission…. Harwood Bellis Baxtor, Winks, Ladapo, Larsen…..eh?
- Good squad this though I think, flexed some 3rd pick strength and saved the gambles for the back end picks.
- Predicted XI – Raya, Virgil, Branthwaite, Burn, Mazraoui, KDB, Eze, Mbuemo, Watkins, Solanke, Muniz
Mary
- Love this first 5, Palmer, Diogo, Maddison, Hojlund and Gabriel. 3 of the potentially biggest midfield scorers, a striker who could….could…do well and one of the most solid goal scoring defenders in the league.
- 6 to 10 is a little sketchy, I’ve never understood what a Joao Pedro is and am constantly surprised at how young he is considering how long he seems to have been around, Gvardiol is deece, Gomes, Semenyo and Schar are a mixed bag of personal taste.
- I think Schade is a good underrated pick up, Edouard is a pointless pick up, Bobb might start a game in March, Konate at 25 could be inspired but Murphy at 23 is confusing as fuck.
- Predicted XI – Onana, Big Gabby, Gvardiol, Ake, Schar, Palmer, Diogo, Maddison, Schade, Hojlund, Joao Pedro
Tobes
- 1 to 5 it felt like Tiny had found his feet after 11 seasons of chaos. Son, Havertz, Jackson, Pickford and Gakpo, whilst striker heavy it's a good solid list of point scorers, not elite by any stretch but you can safely expect at least one of them to score you points every week.
- Then came Alvarez…….I have no idea why he was still on the list but he was, so obviously Tiny picked him, still, at least he hasn’t raped anyone.
- Due to recency bias Fatawu feels like a good pick up but aside from that nothing else really sticks out past pick 7.
- Predicted XI – Pickford, Akanji, Andersen, Fatawu, Son, Gibbs White, Paqueta, Mainoo, Havertz, Jackson, Gakpo
Big Man
- Nice front five (ish) Foden, Darwin, Toney, Saliba and Kudus. Unfortunately it appears one of those is leaving the league as I type and Darwin has a track record only a Liverpool fan could gamble on. You can tell we’re on the way down in the draft order here.
- Neto, Zirkzee and Tonali could be interesting picks but we really hit a screwball scramble from there on.
- Predicted XI – Martinez, Saliba, Van der Ven, Tarks, Shaw, Foden, Kamada, Kudus, Neto, Darwin, Zirkzee
Lee
- How in flying fucks name did 7th pick in The Draft get Salah? Absolutely scenes in Bristol as they signed a player many many picks above their station but somehow it was made possible as people just seemed to forget he existed. Madness.
- Gordon, Jesus, Garnacho and Leif Davis made up the rest of the picks which is questionable at best. Davis is an epically big risk but 7th is when you need to start taking those kind of punts.
- Sarr feels like a stupid pick at 9th but this squad is full of absolute shots in the dark. Maatsen, Barco, Buonanotte, Davis and Sarr could all be masterstrokes of an FFY genius or they could be 5 wastes of space, no one really knows.
- Trossard, Timber and Mount again could be great picks in the Supes but could cause a lot of problems regarding when and if they’ll get minutes.
- Predicted XI – Leno, Davis, Gusto, Barco, Salah, Gordon, Trossard, Mount, Jesus, Cunah, Wissa
Niall
- The wildcard of The Draft goes to Mr Brophy this year, seemingly strange choices but give it a few months and it could all be absolutely brilliant.
- Fullkrig at 2 seems brave but Iwobi at 5 is bonkers. Odegaard, Fullkrig, Nkunku, Doku and Iwobi are the front 5 and it is real peaky and troughy.
- Minteh could be the pick up of the season, Werner may not be though.
- Predicted XI – Flekken, Munoz, Botman, Ait Nouri, Martinez, Odegaard, Nkunku, Doku, Minteh, Szobo, Fullkrig
Warren
- The Maverick of The League played a very safe draft it seems. Isak, Mateta, Martinelli, Rashford and Kulu could be excellent. Isak and Mateta I think are going to have massive seasons, Martinelli and Rashford have a lot of prove this season and as much as Wally loves Kulu he’s never really kicked on from his initial load spell at Spuds. Solid for 9th pick though, borderline impressive.
- Summerville is a nice pick, Grealish could be but aside from that nothing sticks out.
- Who the fuck are Sels and Sugawara?
- I think this squad could be seriously short on defenders
- Pope, Konsa, Sensei, Livramento, Walker, Martinelli, Rashford, Grealish, Hee Chan, Isak, Mateta
Ed

GW1 Review
Team of the Week
After his baby back bullshit season last year Mr Deverell got another bite at the 1st pick cherry and has come storming back into the new season with a GW high score of 60. He may have Haaland again but this time he’s worked out you need to spread the points around with Ederson (8), White (6), Trent (8), Pedro (9), Maguire (5), Mitoma (8) and Haaland (7) all going above and beyond for the first game. A mightily impressive defensive haul to be fair and could this be the season that Dev has finally worked out how to play this game and build a squad? I really hope not as I hate saying nice things about him.
Match of the Week
Mary v VV takes the cookie this week with the match finishing up 40 v 41 in Niall’s favour. It’s a great start to the season as 8th pick beats 4th pick and we even had the jeopardy all the way to the final whistle of the last game in which Maddison looked like he was out to send Leicester back down in GW1 only to not be able to find that last pass or shot. More tension like this please this season.
Player of the Week
The Man The League Forgot or Mo Salah as he’s also known is this weeks top lad with a score of 14. In a world were Salah has been 1st or 2nd pick in every draft since the dawn of time it’s fucking mind-blowing he ended up going 7th but he did and TSFC may have the faintest bit of hope because of it this season. New manager, new style, new season but as it seems same old Salah. Here’s to plenty more…..please.
Chump of the Week
Erm…..erm……erm….hot potato hot potato hot I’m saying nothing because that’s how we do things these days…….
Dawkins of the Week
I feel this part of the Review may need to come under review as the weeks progress, as I said during The Draft it’s going to tough as generally it’s the promoted teams that cause me all sorts of issues but with Leicester and Soton returning after long stays in the Premier League it leaves little wiggle room for unfamiliar players…..don’t get me wrong there definitely is some but just not as many. With that said Murphy has really been bothering me, I keep wondering who it is because there’s no way that geko faced rat from Newcastle could have been picked up in the draft and played in GW1 but apparently he has been. Special shout out to the Kamada Dragon who is actually supposed to be pretty good.
